Back To School Tips

It’s Back To School time!  Here is some advice from seasoned moms to help start the school year off right:

1. Be excited about the start of school. Your enthusiasm will help your children be excited as well.

2. If your child attends school, visit his or her new classroom and re-familiarize him or her with the surroundings. If you home school, talk about your plans for the year, expectations and rules that need to be followed or any changes that will be made from the previous year.

3.  Discuss any fears your child may have about the start of a new school year.

4. Prepare a healthy breakfast and lunch for your child. His or her little body needs nourishment to get through the day.

5. Start the “routine”  of a regular bedtime, wake-up time, etc to make those first few days of school easier.

6. Organize all school supplies, materials, organize your classroom if you home school, etc in preparation for the big first day.

7. Plan a celebration dinner after the first day of school. It can be as simple as a favorite meal or dessert. Let each child talk about his or her favorite thing about the new school year. (We are planning pizza and streamers/balloons around my daughter’s chair to make her feel like the princess that night)

This is my very first “Back To School”. My little baby starts kindergarten this month. (Sniff.Sniff). I am both happy and sad at the same time. You probably understand.

I hope everyone has a safe and exciting first few weeks of school!

I recently read this one in a magazine, and I think I’ll do it with my daughter who will be going to kindergarten tomorrow (yeah!!). I’m going to let her wear a beaded necklace that she likes of mine on her first day and if she is thinking of home or is lonely, she’ll have that special necklace to touch and make her smile.
